Myth: Checking your score online lowers your credit score
This is false:
When you check your credit history from a credit monitoring service this is not counted against you. It is actually a responsible thing to do; it is recommended that you check your credit history at least two times a year. This helps to remove inaccuracies and detect credit fraud earlier.
Possible Signs of Credit Fraud and Identity Theft
• You stop getting your bills. The reason this could happen is that a thief changed your billing address.
• Bills are arriving for credit cards you did not open.
• Your credit card company has either contacted you or put a temporary hold on your account because they perceived unusual activity on your account.
• You have good credit but get denied when trying to open a new credit card or denied new cell phone service after a credit check.
